A rumored HD-DVD Xbox 360

News circling round the web of on Xbox 360 with an internal HD-DVD. Wow!, I say, and I can’t wait for those rumor to come true. A recent report by Smarthouse is that Microsoft and Toshiba are teaming up to manufacture a new Xbox 360 with an internal HD-DVD drive which is aimed and locked for the entertainment market and will include new entertainment software. Pondering on that thought, would it be similar to Media Center in some ways or more. The article states that the software is a spin off of the Media Center specifically for Xbox 360. A strategic move to fight the Blu-Ray technology used by Sony’s Playstation 3. This Dream box comes to the battle equipped with extensive wireless networking capability as well as 1080p playback, a dual HD TV tuner and EPG capability and a docking port for an MP3 player for for extensive gaming capability and as an entertainment hub with a unique open standard chassis system that allows an Xbox to be slotted into a HD TV screen over 40-inch! Wow these are great improvements. Let’s see if they can deliver, well we’ll see in 2008 or early 2009.
A nameless senior Toshiba executive said,

“An Xbox with a built in HD DVD drive is critical. They and we are working on it. It also has to be more than a gaming machine. Microsoft recognise this. A version of the device may also be sold under the Toshiba brand name”.
