Castlevania: Symphony of Night Now Available on Live

The legendary Castlevania: Symphony of Night is now available for download on Live! This is a stroll down memory lane, as game publisher Konami Digital Entertainment remakes the legendary 2D scrolling game, which is a favorite among PlayStation-era (circa late 1990’s) games.

Symphony of Night lets you play the role of Alucard, Dracula’s half-vampire son, as he ventures into his father’s castle. Alucard must collect weapons, armor, and other items in order to defeat the monsters that stand in his way. The storyline and dialogue of Symphony of Night are quite quirky, but reviews are raving about the smooth controls (works excellently with the Xbox 360’s analogue controls), detailed artwork, and of course the legendary soundtrack.

This new version was supposedly re-created to take advantage of the Xbox 360’s power. However according to reviews, it is more of a faithful remake of the original. Sound is downsampled slightly, but the visuals have been improved and are noticeably smoother, with support for widescreen and high-definition.

A new addition to the game is Xbox Live Achievements, where you can earn up to 12 Achievements, ranging from the easy (e.g., kill ten enemies in a row without getting hit) to hardcore (e.g., finish the game as Richter). You can also earn up to 200 Gamescore points.

Symphony of Night is downloadable for 800 points on Live Arcade.
