Microsoft started a new wave of bans against modified DVD firmwares, DVD+/-R DL discs, it seems that you can’t Bitset DVD-R discs to a DVD-ROM booktype. Users with Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives might be banned with both Xtreme and iXtreme under the hood. So better be careful, or just buy a new box. However, there are reports that some firmware mods are still operating under the radar. The latest version of popular firmware hack iXtreme appears to be functioning just fine for some, as does the staple BenQ drive hack—though, as MaxConsole warns, “this has not been extensively confirmed”—and from some of the reports it could be just a matter of time.
