Microsoft to Introduce Upgraded Xbox360

Exciting news for Xbox 360 fans and users. Microsoft is soon to release an upgraded Xbox 360, dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite. This model will have a 120 Gigabyte hard drive (an upsize of 600% from the original 20 GB), HDMI (high def) output ports, and wireless controllers and headset. What’s more important: it will come in black!

The concept behind the Xbox 360 Elite is to appeal to hardcore gamers who are concerned not just about processing horsepower, but also with the killer looks of their console. Of course, it’s the high definition capability that ups the ante here.

The Xbox 360 Elite will be announced this week, and will be retailed in US stores this April. SRP is $479, or $80 more than the Xbox 360 Pro, and $180 more than the basic package. Note that current Xbox 360 users can purchase the 120 GB hard drive as an upgrade for an additional $179.

Microsoft (as well as Sony, with its Playstation 3) is positioning its consoles largely as home-entertainment devices rather than gaming hardware. However, the launch of the Xbox 360 Elite will bring the focus a little more to the high-end market, which Sony’s Playstation 3 currently dominates (the PS3 is priced higher than both Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii combined). The HDMI output will certainly appeal to those who intend to use the Xbox 360 more as a home entertainment device.
